winterhiking.org is now going on its second year. Gordon and I, its authors, are continuing to define its place in the voluminous and information saturated world of the Internet. Since neither Gordon or I pursue this passion on a full time basis, the process is gradual. Furthermore, given the seasonal nature of this subject, this site is likely to evolve further during the winter. We hope you will bear with us in our growth, and continue to check back often for new developments, tales of our adventures, photography, and new insights into the sport. We seek to demystify winter hiking for those who have not had the opportunity to experience its pleasures, or have only just begun. To inspire others, as we have been inspired to venture into the winter wonderland where so few others have dared to travel. This year, in addition to continuing to post detailed descriptions of our adventures, we will be taking a close look at winter hiking gear. While modern gear has come a long way over the past 20 years in making winter hikers comfortable and safe, even in the most extreme conditions. The shear volume of choices could prove to confuse even the most experienced hiker. We hope to shed some light on that confusion. Visit our "gear" link above for a comprehensive overview of all the gear necessary to hike and camp in harshest winter environments. In addition to our effort to develop this web site, Gordon and I continue to be available to speak about winter hiking, our recent completion of the 4000 ft White Mountain Summits, the history of winter hiking in the White Mountains, and the importance of women's roll in that history. Our presentation has been well received by The Balsams Grand Resort's , AMC New Hampshire Chapter, the New Hampton Historical Society, the Thompson-Ames Historical Society of Gilford New Hampshire, and a Boy Scout Troop in Exeter. We are looking forward to offering our presentation as part of the Mount Washington Resort's speaker program on May 3, 2007. Thank you for visiting, come back soon. Gordon and I hope to see you on the trail this winter as we pursue our goal to hike the New England one hundred highest summits in winter. Click here to
